Astilleros Lagos was founded in 1915 by Fernando Lagos Carsi,. He was born in Vigo in 1889. He studied in London from the age of 11 and graduated as Mechanical and Electrical Engineer from King's College and University of London, and then as Naval Architect from the Royal Technical College of Glasgow. In Glasgow he worked in the tehnical office of the renowned Shipyard John Brown.Before the start of World War I, he came back to Vigo, where he started to build runabouts and small motor boats. Lagos Boatyard had just been born.
The yard increased in size and evolved, and soon its production achieved a wide reputation. For example Lagos Snipes were known all over Spain.Gradually his sons started working in the yard. Fernando Lagos left the day to day running of the yard when he was 70, but he kept designing boats. He died at the age of 87. In 1988 the third generation started working in the yard.
During these 93 years of activity, we have repaired wood, aluminum, steel, reinforced plastic, ferrocement, etc.., from different nationalities, and we designed and built instruction rowing boats and landing craft for the Spanish Navy , Optimists, Cadetes, Mirrors, Snipes, Stars, Dragon Class boats, crruising and racing sailing vessels, motor boats of different sizes and speeds, sail and motor racing catamarans, work boats for the Port authorities of La Coruña, Pontevedra, Vigo, Seville, Algeciras, and Castellon de la Plana.
